After months of unavailablity, I ordered Webb’s _Cat People_ from Amazon.com and received it a few minutes ago. While the disc appears to be pressed rather than burned, the packaging appears to be color photocopy rather than printed, and the disc has a Naxos logo with no material identifying the disc’s contents. This makes it look like it is a bootleg copy, or possibly a new variation of “print on demand.” No other Naxos CD I own, whether film scores, opera, or classical music, is packaged like this.

Dear Mr. Hutchins,
We hope this message finds you well.
Upon checking with the concerned department, it was confirmed that you did not get the correct copy and whoever provides Amazon.com can order them from us at any time as we have CDs complete with inlays and other information.
Please allow us to suggest you get in touch with Amazon.com first re this matter.
Thank you!
Warmest regards,
Ms. Honeylyn Panganiban

I returned the CD to Amazon for a refund shortly thereafter.
I was telling a friend about this incident yesterday. She suggested that I order the CD again (which I have yet to find in a store, harder still now that fewer stores carry CDs–the only store I can think of that sells new classical CDs in New York City is Barnes and Noble (and classical music listeners have not warmed to the compressed sound of mp3)). I discovered, however, that Amazon has, in fact, doubled-down, probably based on my complaint and return of the item (the image is bigger, but I’m not sure how to make it display bigger on WordPress):
Either Naxos has capitulated to Amazon (which does not sound like Naxos), or Amazon is selling illegal copies of this CD, and most likely, this isn’t the only thing that they’re selling in illegally-made copies.
