The Depths to Which Scumbag Employers Will Go
I received this message on my voicemail at 9:37 AM:
Hi, good morning, this is Miss Amy. This message is for Scott. I’m calling because I received a resume in reference to an office assistant position that is something that you applied for online. I wanted you to come in for an interview to come see me either today or tomorrow so you can possibly start work in the next week or so if qualified for the position. If interested, give me a call back at 718-291-5100. Again, this is Miss Amy calling to set up an interview. Phone number 718-291-5100. Have a good day.
When I called back today at 10:05 AM, I did not reach Miss Amy, but someone else who told me that this was not actually an office assistant job, but a security guard job for which I would have to get New York State licensing at my own expense. I would not and did not apply for anything that was presented as a security guard job. The woman on the line spoke very fast and the only thing that I caught is that part of it involved watching security cameras. There are guys at the shelter who work at security guards, and they told me that even when you see guys sitting at front desks, it’s really not much of a sit-down job, even though you do get to sit occasionally. I do not think investing in security guard licensing is a good use of my limited funds.
The only job to which I have recently applied with the title of office assistant is the following:
